About Us

The College was established on 15th August 2001 by the Government of Uttarakhand, vide G.O. No. 277/M.S.Education/2001. The college is named after Chandra Kunwar Bartwal, a poet of versatile genius, who carved his poems on the natural vegetation of Nagnath Pokhari. He was born in Malkoti, and passed away at the young age of 28 years at Pawlia. Even in this short while he left an enormous wealth of literature, to be explored by innumerable coming generations. Several of his poems are part of the syllabi for the Bachelor of Arts courses, in the university.

The college is situated in the Pokhari tehsil of district Chamoli in Uttarakhand. This region shares a border with China. The latitudinal and longitudinal location of the college is 30° 20`134 N and 79° 11` I53 E, respectively. It is situated at a height of 1850mt. above sea level. The college is spread over an area of 0.998 Hectares. The estimated worth of the building of the college, as it stands today, is over 4 crore rupees. The Payjal Nirmaan Nigam, Gopeshwer, is responsible for the construction work.

In the year 2003, the Uttarakhand Government sanctioned posts of Principal, Lecturer, Junior Clerk and Peon (one each), vide G.O. No. 474/Higher Education/2003-3(42)2002. Simultaneously, seven subjects, namely Hindi, English, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Sociology and History were started. Later on different posts of 26 lecturers were sanctioned, vide G.O. No’s 163/XXIV(7)/2006-3(42)2002, dated 17 June 2006, 3437/XXIV(07)-17(6)/2015, dated 17 March 2015, 368(1)/XXIV(7)/2015/13, dated 6 June 2015 and 649/XXIV(3)/2016-01(30)2015, dated 14 December 2016. Over the years the strength of students has grown from 35 to 502.
